Our health visitors work in the field of preventative medicine and positive health. Much of their work is with children, families and the elderly and those with special needs, although their help is available to all members of the community. They are also able to prescribe certain medicines. Their telephone number is 01995 672939.

Well Baby Clinic

The health visitors hold regular clinics for routine immunisation, developmental assessment and advice on the health of your baby.
Please do not bring ill babies to the clinic - book a surgery appointment.

Hearing Tests

These are arranged by the health visitor for children.

Visiting Practitioners

A range of practitioners attend the Health Centre on a regular basis and the Doctor may refer patients to them for the following services:

  • Physiotherapy

  • Podiatry

  • Clinical psychology

  • Community psychiatric services

  • Counselling

  • Smoking cessation

  • Alcohol services

Patient Services (NHS)

Health Checks, Health Screening And Advice

The practice provides screening/advice about smoking, diet, well-person checks etc plus routine health checks for new patients and those aged 75 plus.

If you would like a health check, please ask at reception.

Diabetic Clinic

The Doctor, Podiatrist and Nurse work together to provide comprehensive care and guidance.

Respiratory Clinic

The Practice Nurses will see patients with asthma and other breathing problems for monitoring and to discuss treatment and control.

High Blood Pressure

The nurses monitor patients who are receiving long-term treatment for hypertension.

Heart Disease Prevention

The Practice Nurses arrange tests, such as cholesterol check, to assess your risk of developing coronary heart disease and will advise on prevention. She also sees patients with heart disease for their annual review.

Family Planning

Dr Cassels, Dr Molloy and the practice nurses provide a range of family planning services on alternate Mondays (5.00 - 7.00pm) by appointment. Any doctor can give family planning advice during normal surgeries if preferred.

Well Woman Clinic

Health checks for women, including cervical smear tests, are conducted by the practice nurses (or a doctor if you prefer) by appointment.

Maternity Care

The Midwife holds an antenatal clinic each Tuesday morning. Most confinements are arranged on a 'shared care' basis with antenatal and postnatal care provided in the health centre, while delivery takes place in the hospital. Please make an appointment for the antenatal clinic when your pregnancy is confirmed.

Minor Surgery

The GPs can provide a range of minor surgical procedures. Appointments for these services can usually be arranged at other times if the clinic times are inconvenient. Please ask te recehptionist.

Ultrasound Scans

A visiting practitioner provides this service in monthly clinics for patients referred by the GP.

Immunisation And Travel

A practice nurse will assess your disease risk and devise an individual schedule of recommended vaccinations and health advice for those intending to travel abroad. Malaria and travel sickness tablets, sunscreen etc, can be purchased from the Pharmacy.

Private (Non-NHS) Services

We offer the following private services which are not covered by the NHS. The list of charges for private work is displayed in reception:

  • Travel and employment vaccinations

  • Passport photographs and forms - provided the doctor has known you for at least two years

  • Insurance medicals and forms

  • Employment and driver's medicals

  • Certain letters, forms, certificates, notes and examinations

  • Private medical examinations are by prior arrangement

Helpful Hints And Advice

There are six ways you can really help yourself live a healthier lifestyle:

  • Be a non-smoker

  • Be a reasonable weight

  • Take regular exercise ie 20-30 minutes, 2-3 times a week

  • Eat a high fibre, low fat diet

  • If you drink alcohol, do so only in moderation

  • Avoid excessive exposure to the sun - use a sunscreen

Health Checks

Patients may request a general health check at any time; this will be carried out by one of our practice nurses and may include bloods tests, blood pressure checks etc. Indeed, it is recommended that a general health check be carried out every three years and annually if you are over 75. Please make an appointment with reception if you would like to take advantage of this service.
